Mike Willis

By |2018-08-27T13:25:34+00:00August 27th, 2018|Uncategorized|

Dear Members,It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that Mike Willis died on 20 August 2018. He’d been ill for some time and put up a brave fight. Mike will be remembered by many as a regular supporter at our events, particularly our Golf Tours. Typical of Mike are the attached photos from Hardelot which also featured another great character, Hugh Heap, before he emigrated to Australia and died a few years ago.I said to Mike’s son James that I’m sure Mike would not have wanted his funeral to clash with our [...]

Another great (and warm) day at Copt Heath

By |2019-01-15T16:53:43+00:00July 8th, 2018|Uncategorized|

The Summer Meeting was supported by Artko (thanks to Michael Pestereff) and Britannia Bureau (Mark Taylor), organised by Richard Burgess and attended by 14 members and 3 guests. The course was in excellent condition - but very dry - so we were all hitting long but then unable to stop it on the green! The Club made us feel very welcome and the catering lived up to their high reputation. We were delighted to welcome John Sanderson back to the fold on an outing from his home now in Scotland. The prize-winners were: nearest the [...]

Wonderful Hankley Common

By |2018-06-03T08:39:13+00:00June 3rd, 2018|Uncategorized|

Despite a major calendar clash with several important industry events, 21 members and guests were able to attend the Spring Meeting at Hankley Common Golf Club on 15th May. They were rewarded with not just a wonderful golf course in excellent condition, but also fine, dry weather and great camaraderie. The meeting was efficiently organised by Brian Allen and was generously sponsored once again by Narrow Aisle (thanks to John Maguire).  The Club’s hospitality and service was excellent and the choices offered at the carvery lunch were just too tempting! Probably [...]

Member’s Meeting played at Beaconsfield GC – eventually!

By |2018-05-09T12:40:26+00:00May 9th, 2018|Uncategorized|

As any UK golfer will know, the appalling weather in March and early April played havoc with many a game of golf. One of the casualties was our Member’s Meeting, which was originally due to be held on 3rd April, but was finally contested at a very accommodating Beaconsfield Golf Club on 25th April. Because of the change in date, the Annual General Meeting (which is traditionally held on same day as this event) had also been postponed and was held prior to play. The minutes of this AGM can be viewed elsewhere on [...]

Members Meeting – 25th April 2018 now confirmed

By |2018-04-04T13:31:46+00:00April 4th, 2018|Uncategorized|

The Members Meeting that was originally postponed because of wet weather will now be held on Wednesday 25th April 2018 Paul Symes writes, "Inevitably the alternative date didn’t suit everyone. I’ve tried to get other dates from BGC but they come too close to and might detract from support for our other advertised meetings. So I apologise to those who cannot make that date but the best compromise is to go for 25 Apr 2018.  As we’d be following another small society and cannot tee off until 1030, I propose we meet at 0900 for [...]

Beaconsfield – latest news update

By |2018-04-01T17:44:02+00:00April 1st, 2018|Uncategorized|

Beaconsfield had a trolley ban today (Sunday) and that is unsurprising given the amount of rain we have had recently. There is a chance that they may be the situation on Tuesday, but we cannot predetermine that at this stage. Therefore, if the course is open, please consider bringing a lightweight carry bag. I can confirm that Beaconsfield is a fairly flat, good draining course. In addition, the forecast for Monday is not good in this area, so Paul and I will be having some discussions with the professional and if the course is likely to continue [...]

Golf Tour to Cornwall

By |2018-03-23T22:15:26+00:00March 4th, 2018|Tour, Uncategorized|

We have decided once again to stay on home soil and this year we plan to visit Cornwall. We will be staying right in the heart of this golfing region at Trevose Golf & Country club. We have booked a number of lodges that sleep 5 to 6 people. Please check their web site for more details but I promise you its good quality accommodation and couldn’t be better situated being right next to the first tee at Trevose together with its welcoming club house. This is holiday golf at its very best. Trevose is [...]
