Motor Trades GS Match

By |2022-06-16T11:19:37+01:00May 31st, 2022|Uncategorized|

We added an extra event to our schedule for the season – a match between teams of 8 against the Motor Trades Golf Society.  This first/inaugural match was arranged by Paul Healy of the MT GS at Surbiton Golf Club on Mon 23 May 2022. As this was a late addition to our list of events, many of those who wanted to play had other commitments, with the regrettable result that we could only field a team of 6.  Nevertheless, we all met up for a snack lunch and then played a 4BBB match.  The first pairing of Paul [...]

When it’s Spring again……..

By |2022-05-31T19:07:59+01:00May 31st, 2022|Uncategorized|

As evidenced by the main picture, Hankley Common GC was in its usual superb condition for our annual Spring Meeting. When the Spring Meeting moved to Hankley Common GC from its original home at Denham GC in 2008, we were indebted to Flexi-Narrow Aisle, through member John Maguire, for their sponsorship. The fact that Flexi-Narrow Aisle have continued to support this event over the years is evidence of the benefits such exposure to, and networking with,  senior figures in the logistics industry can bring. This year, relaxation of two years of pandemic-enforced restrictions made [...]

Member’s Meeting – Success at Last!

By |2022-05-02T15:51:34+01:00May 2nd, 2022|Uncategorized|

With high hopes for a successful new season, 22 members – including a welcome newcomer, Garrett Emmerson – arrived at Beaconsfield Golf Club on Tuesday 12th April to kick off our 2022 golfing year. Prior to the golf, and for the first time in 2 years, we were able to hold a proper AGM without having to resort to video conferencing. Mandatory officers were voted into post, reports delivered on the society activities for 2021 and events were confirmed for 2022. There was then much discussion on the society's programme for 2023 and beyond in the light of [...]

Chairman’s Review of the Year 2021

By |2022-01-05T16:36:07+00:00January 5th, 2022|Uncategorized|

Report for 2021.  Apart from our Members’ Meeting, the easing of Covid restrictions enabled us to enjoy a full season of events and attendance levels improved.  We gained some new members so I extend a warm welcome to them all.  One feature this year was the introduction of the World Handicap System (WHS) which, in time, should provide a ‘playing handicap’ which more accurately reflects a golfer’s playing ability and the difficulty of the course being played.  Click the link for a summary of the results of events in 2021 ChairmanReport21AnnexA. General.  A Committee Meeting in November discussed all [...]

Over the past few weeks members of our Golf Society have been busy doing battle with various other groups. The results of their endeavours are shown below. Triangular match versus The Royal Logistics Corps GS and Transport GS While the world of logistics is facing many challenges - notably from the global pandemic and the aftermath of Brexit - it is comforting to know that golf can provide a little respite. Our match v the Royal Logistic Corps Golf Society has been played annually since 1996, initially at the RAC Club, [...]

Another Amazing Tour

By |2021-09-22T14:53:41+01:00September 21st, 2021|Uncategorized|

Whatever the location and regardless of the weather, John Winter always organises a thoroughly enjoyable tour! This year’s three day return trip to Yorkshire proved to be no exception. The tour party of 26 members and six guests, met at Moortown Golf Club – venue for the 1929 Ryder Cup - on Sunday 5th September. Having recently hosted the English Amateur Championship, the course was in tip-top, if somewhat tough, condition. Nevertheless, several players stepped up to the task and managed to play to, or better than, their handicaps.  Among performances of note was that [...]

A Close Match!

By |2021-09-23T18:25:04+01:00August 8th, 2021|Uncategorized|

Hoping to improve upon last year’s tied match, the CILT Golf Society took on the National Liberal Club Golf Circle at Aldwickbury Park Golf Club near Harpenden on Thursday 29th July. The Liberal GC included two ladies in their team for the first time. This was a welcome development in an always enjoyable sporting and social event. Unfortunately only 7 of the selected 8 CILT GS team members were able to attend, so Eddie Cox ended up with the tough task of taking on a Liberal GC pair on his own – in a 4-ball, better ball, Stableford competition! [...]

Summer Meeting – Copt Heath GC

By |2021-07-14T13:27:18+01:00July 10th, 2021|Uncategorized|

Despite the ongoing pandemic restrictions, 24 members and 4 guests enjoyed a great day at Copt Heath Golf Club near Solihull on Thursday 24th June. As usual for this (our 6th) visit to the home of Peter McEvoy, the course was in terrific condition and provided an excellent test of golfing ability. After consuming the traditional pre-round fare of coffee/tea and bacon rolls, the assembled golfers headed out to the course - many via the practice area. As it turned out, this was probably a wise move! Whatever the case, those who brought along (or [...]

Off and running at Hankley Common

By |2021-06-11T17:35:26+01:00May 25th, 2021|Strategy|

After the trials and tribulations of last year, it was a delight to hold the 2021 Spring Meeting at its spiritual home of Hankley Common Golf Club, and in the traditional month of May. The Covid restrictions have provided a real challenge to the ability of golf clubs to respond to the backlog of demand from members and visiting societies and one consequence was that we were limited to a field of 28 players for this event.  At the same time, enthusiasm from members to get back together meant that bids to enter exceeded that number so we had [...]

At the AGM on 11th March 2021, it was agreed that the CILT Golf Society should align itself as closely as possible with the new World Handicapping System (WHS) for the purposes of competition. The following article attempts to explain the WHS and its impact on society members and those who participate in our events. Background Our original rule on Handicaps was deliberately introduced to allow CILT golfers (who are not members of affiliated golf clubs) to participate in our events. GS members (who are members of affiliated clubs) and have scored 36 or more points in one of [...]
