2020 Season to Start Soon?

By |2020-06-19T12:53:13+01:00June 18th, 2020|Uncategorized|

2020 has been a very different year for all of us to date. It is to be hoped that the absence of golf has been the least of your worries and our sympathies go to anyone directly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. From a golfing standpoint, the opening of courses, albeit with many virus-control restrictions in place, has been very welcome. However, the fact that golf clubs have so far been unable to supply changing and catering facilities for large groups, means that we have been unable to enjoy any of our CILT Golfing events scheduled to date. [...]

Chairman’s Review of 2019

By |2020-03-14T09:06:21+00:00February 13th, 2020|Uncategorized|

A year ago we were preparing for our 25th season and discussing an offer to invite HRH The Princess Royal, as CILT Patron, to help us round off the year at her grandfather’s old golf club, Northamptonshire County Golf Club. Not surprisingly, her programme was too full. Nevertheless we still had a great year. Our Members’ Meeting at Beaconsfield Golf Club was rearranged because of the weather but 20 members and guests enjoyed the outing on 2 April with Peter Taylor returning the best card to win the Chairman’s Cup - for the 4th time! For our Spring Meeting, [...]

Planned schedule for 2020

By |2020-03-13T18:10:42+00:00January 25th, 2020|Uncategorized|

Welcome to the CILT Golf Society's 26th season. Here are 8 good reasons why you may want to join us in 2020. We warm up for the golfing season with the usual Members Meeting on 15th April 2020 – to be held for the third successive year at Beaconsfield Golf Club. Beaconsfield is a beautifully presented, classic Harry Colt designed course with excellent practice facilities – particularly the Luke Donald short game area! The course remains basically the same as when it was originally designed in 1913 by HS "Harry" Colt and has many of [...]

Climb for Life

By |2020-03-13T17:16:53+00:00January 23rd, 2020|Uncategorized|

Just before Christmas, Immediate Past Captain of the CILT Golf Society, Gus Whyte (Key Account Director at Hoppecke Industrial Batteries Ltd), took part in the 2019 ‘Climb of Life’ to raise money in support of the Institute of Cancer Research. On the day a team of 112 volunteers split into separate groups to take on several well-known Lake District hills including: Wansfell Round; Side Pike and Lingmoor; Place Fell; Bowfell; High Street; Helm Crag to High Raise; Langdale Pikes; Great Gable; Crinkle Crags; and Blencathra with Sharp Edge. ‘Climb of Life’ has been raising monies for the Institute of [...]

Match versus the Oil Industry GS

By |2019-10-31T19:24:18+00:00October 31st, 2019|Uncategorized|

After a month’s postponement due to extreme bad weather, this fixture – the oldest in the Golf Society’s calendar – was played at Denham Golf Club on Thursday 24th October. Although rain was forecast for the day, we were fortunate to start in mild, cloudy conditions on a course that was in fairly good condition for the time of year. Unfortunately the promised wet weather did hit mid-round and resulted in some interesting putts on waterlogged greens and 16 very soggy golfers! The three-course Denham carvery lunch restored dampened spirits but, after a run of 7 consecutive wins, CILT [...]

Autumn Meeting at Northamtonshire County GC

By |2019-10-31T19:10:22+00:00October 31st, 2019|Uncategorized|

Our Autumn Meeting at the County Golf Club near Northampton marked the completion of the 25th season for the CILT Golf Society. The Chairman, Paul Symes, passed on many congratulatory messages and we were delighted to welcome back past captains, Tom Brown (down from Scotland and Captain in 2012-13) and Martin Elliott (Captain in 1999-2000). As is always the case, the date did not suit some - including our organiser, Brian Childs - a field of 21 members and guests enjoyed lovely autumn weather and a golf course in pristine condition. Support for our celebratory dinner was provided by [...]

Annual Tour – Cornwall Revisited

By |2019-10-06T16:31:12+01:00October 6th, 2019|Uncategorized|

Well we wouldn’t be logisticians if we didn’t move about a bit would we? After a successful visit to Cornwall in 2018, we decided to visit this delightful part of the country again in early September 2019. Using the very well appointed Trevose Golf & Country Club (accommodation suites pictured) as a base, the 26-strong party once again enjoyed a programme that included at least 2 nights B&B, 3 rounds of golf and a lively gala dinner. On Day 1 we stayed close to base and played the Championship course at Trevose in reasonably fine weather. However we had [...]

RLC/TGS Match Result

By |2019-11-18T15:00:22+00:00August 28th, 2019|Uncategorized|

The Golf Society started playing annual matches against the RLC in 1996 (Windelsham, the RAC Club and Hants GC). We were joined by the FTA for a few years then the format v RLC and TGS began in Aldershot /Deepcut in 2013. This year’s match was held with the threat of serious inclement weather. A team of 8 members of the CILT Golf Society played a Stableford match competing in each match with 1 TGS and 1 RLC opponent. The CILT team was supported well by a mixture of experienced members plus some new recruits. [...]

Match versus the Liberal Club Golf Circle

By |2019-07-22T10:47:26+01:00July 22nd, 2019|Uncategorized|

The unfortunately wet weather conditions didn't dampen the enthusiasm of 16 intrepid golfers who competed in this annual fixture for the 3rd time. Many thanks to Gerrards Cross Golf Club for hosting the event despite the rain and for providing such great hospitality - especially the post-round three course supper when the clubhouse was otherwise deserted! With regard to the match result CILT Chairman, Paul Symes, was quick to point out that 10 of the 16 players were members of the CILT Golf Society and that 1 of our members was 'loaned' to the opposition to make up their [...]

Splendid Summer Meeting

By |2019-07-22T10:10:36+01:00July 22nd, 2019|Uncategorized|

Not for the first time, the true but tricky greens at Copt Heath GC proved to be the undoing of many of the 19 members and 2 guests who enjoyed an otherwise terrific day at this first class venue. As confirmation of their belief in the value of networking with fellow logisticians, events sponsors Britannia Bureau and Artko were represented by Mark Taylor and Michael Pestereff respectively. Unfortunately neither of them featured at the prize giving which followed an excellent meal. Returning member Richard Herbage picked up the prize for getting nearest to the 18th pin in 2 shots [...]
