CILT GOLF SOCIETY HANDICAPS

March 31st, 2021|

At the AGM on 11th March 2021, it was agreed that the CILT Golf Society should align itself as closely as possible with the new World Handicapping System (WHS) for the purposes of competition. The following article attempts to explain the WHS and its impact on society members and those who participate in our events. Background Our original rule on Handicaps was deliberately introduced to allow CILT golfers (who are not members of affiliated golf clubs) to participate in our events. GS members (who are members of affiliated clubs) and have scored 36 or more points in one of our event competitions, were expected to give their scorecards to their club for processing - in practice, such cards were usually ignored. GS members (who are not members of affiliated golf clubs) and have scored 36 or more points in one of our event competitions, had their GS handicap cut by the GS Handicap Secretary. The World Handicapping Scheme (WHS) On 2 Nov 2020 the WHS replaced national golf union, including CONGU, schemes and ‘competition handicaps’ were replaced by a WHI Handicap Index (HI), [...]

Beaconsfield – 13th April 2021 – Cancelled

February 27th, 2021|

"Further to the Government’s announcement this week, I am writing to update you as to the situation regarding visitors at Beaconsfield. Regrettably, the Club has taken the decision to cancel all Society bookings up until 17th May 2021...Beaconsfield Golf Club" This was probably expected but, obviously, I’m sorry that we will not be able to hold our golf meeting at Beaconsfield on 13 Apr 21. Our programme for the latter half of the year is quite congested so regrettably we will have to miss this meeting but plans are already underway to rebook for 2022. We spoke to Peter Taylor, the current holder of the Chairman's Cup who said, "If I look on the bright side,  I get to keep the Chairman's Cup on display for another year! 😊 Captain Bob tells me that's called, 'Doing a Cameron'.

Welcome to a new season

February 12th, 2021|

Welcome to the 2021 golfing season! As at the time of writing, much of the UK is under a covering of snow and Covid-19 lockdown is still in force. However, with the days getting longer and warmer and anti-virus measures (seemingly) starting to take effect, we can start to make plans for a year that will probably be a bit different from 'normal' but hopefully better than 2020. The season has now been officially launched by a missive from our Chairman, Paul W Symes CBE (Members Mtg21c ). In this document you can find further details about our first event of the season - the Members Meeting - and all the other items summarised below. Our season opening Members’ Meeting is booked for Tuesday 13 April 2021 at Beaconsfield Golf Club. The meeting, which is being organised by Derek Messenger, will commence at 0930, when coffee and a bacon roll will be available.  Starting from the 1st tee at 1030, we will then play in threes to compete in an 18-hole Handicap Stableford for The Chairman’s Cup. Looking back to 2014 – The Belgium Golf Tour

January 13th, 2021|

Having spent the previous 4 years touring Scotland and Jersey we decided to go back across the English Channel to Belgium for the 2014 Tour. We had been put off travelling overseas by a crippling exchange rate that saw us purchasing bottles of Peroni lager for £9 and Gin & T’s for about twice that figure. But the exchange rate was beginning to move back in our favour and golf clubs and hotels were keen to get The British back playing golf again. Instead of going back to France we thought we would explore new horizons and see what Belgium had to offer. Belgium truly is a fabulous golfing destination. It has many traditional parkland and links golf courses that are reasonably priced and seemed to have escaped the focus of overseas tour groups. The boutique hotel in Ghent was an inspired if not a lucky choice. Situated within a short walk of the centre of the city, it had recently been refurbished to a high specification and had just reopened. Their groups team were looking for groups just like us to help [...]

Tour to Yorkshire – Sunday 5th to Tuesday 7th September 2021

January 13th, 2021|

By September this year I think we are all expecting that the wider world will have returned to some sort of normality and we have based our plans this year with that expectation. On the first day, we will play Moortown Golf Club, Leeds; home of the 1929 Ryder Cup. We then travel across the A64 to the York Hilton; our home in the centre of York, for the next two nights. On Day 2, we head north to tackle Kirkbymoorside; the home course of Gus Whyte. Ganton has seen a number of improvements since we were last there, as it prepares for the Brabazon Trophy, and awaits us on Day 3. We will return to 31 Castlegate for Monday night’s dinner.  Offer Our headline price for 2 members sharing a twin room reflects the quality of golf courses that we will be playing at a subsidised member’s rate of £345 that includes all golf, bed and breakfast accommodation for 2 x nights with dinner on the Monday night and a sandwich lunch at Ganton Golf Club. Rooms have been provisionally reserved for [...]
