Brian had been a stalwart of the Golf Society for many years, acting as the organiser of our annual Spring pilgrimage to Hankley Common and as stated by Chairman, Paul Symes, “….my local R&A Rules adviser”.

How sorely Brian’s friendship will be missed by members of the Golf Society can be judged by email messages received shortly after his death was made known:

‘Such sad news, what a wonderful friend and companion……’

‘………spent some quality time chatting with Brian in Cornwall and couldn’t agree more with the other comments about what a true gentleman he was. Such a sad loss.’

‘Big shock after a discussion I had with Brian on Monday afternoon when he was very bouncy and looking forward to Northampton. Big loss…..’

‘Very sad to hear about Brian – such a lovely man! Such a great surprise and shock after our Cornwall tour last week when he was in such good form. He will be greatly missed.’

‘Such a nice man. Very dry sense of humour – a great loss to the group. Fond memories of playing with him at Troon with driving rain and him remaining stoic throughout.’

‘I remember Brian and me sheltering each other from the hurricane at Western Gailes. He asked me to hold him up whilst he hit his tee shot! So funny. Fond memories of a great man.’

‘Incredibly sad news as Brian was on such good form in Cornwall. I shall miss his company at future events.’

‘This is really sad news. You couldn’t have imagined a more delightful golf partner than Brian, his company was such pleasure. I’ll also miss him on our future golf days.’

‘Very upset and sad with the bad news about a really nice guy Brian, can’t believe I was talking and laughing with him only a few days ago. Will miss him on our future golf days.’

‘What a dreadful shock. Such a lovely guy. I cannot believe that we will never again share a buggy – and a lot of laughs. He will be very sadly missed.’

‘He was such a nice guy & will be greatly missed.’

‘One of the nicest guys you could ever meet.’

‘Terribly, terribly sad news, such a lovely guy.’

‘Such a shock. A wonderful man and a privilege to have known him’

A few members of the Golf Society were able to attend Brian Allen’s funeral which was held on Thursday 11th October 2018 in a packed Chapel at Salisbury Crematorium and we then drank a toast to Brian and shared memories at his Golf Club in Tidworth.
