Summer Meeting at Copt Heath GC, Solihull

By |2019-06-04T13:09:12+00:00June 4th, 2019|Uncategorized|

Due to an unfortunate clash with a rescheduled significant industry event, please note that our Summer Meeting will now be held on Monday 1st July 2019 and not Thursday 27th June as previously advised. Once again, and with grateful thanks for their ability to accommodate the change of date, we return to Copt Heath Golf Club, centrally located near Solihull, and with happy memories of the excellent day we had last year. This attractive course designed by Harry Varden and Harry Colt is rated in the Top 100 and home of the Peter McEvoy Trophy. [...]

Another great day at Hankley Common GC

By |2019-05-29T16:45:55+00:00May 29th, 2019|Uncategorized|

Hankley Common GC served up another superb CILT Golf Society event with their usual clubhouse hospitality being every bit as warm as the glorious weather we enjoyed on this beautifully presented course. This year, in addition to the wonderful social camaraderie and business networking, there was also a very special presentation to our long-standing Golf Forum Chairman from the Society members as he celebrated his milestone birthday with our help. It was evident that our guests did not require much persuasion to join the party at this quality venue. [...]

Our Spring Meeting on Tuesday 14 May 2019 will again be held at our favourite venue Hankley Common Golf Club. This beautiful high-quality heathland course near Farnham, Surrey, which originated in 1897, is used as an Open Regional Qualifying Course and was voted number 41 in the Golf Monthly Top 100 courses and 46 in the Golf World Top 100 list (see www.hankley.co.uk for more details). Season-opening Members Meeting

By |2019-04-04T20:13:58+00:00April 4th, 2019|Uncategorized|

Despite the flowering trees and an iconic clubhouse, it is obvious from the wet weather gear that our first ‘major’ event of 2019 was not held in Augusta! 17 members and 3 guests attended the season opening Members Meeting at Beaconsfield Golf Club on 2nd April 2019. It was especially good to see some new faces who, we hope, will be able to join us at future events. For the time of year, the golf course was in excellent condition – especially the true-running greens. Compensation for the chilly, damp weather came in the form [...]

The CILT Golf Society enters its 24th (yes, twenty fourth!) season with the Members' Meeting at Beaconsfield Golf Club on Tuesday 2nd April 2019. Our first outing at this venue last year was hampered by the weather but we’re optimists! It is an attractive and popular venue and we look [...]

Brian Allen – Sorely Missed

By |2019-01-19T10:48:10+00:00January 15th, 2019|Uncategorized|

As we look forward to the golfing year of 2019, we do so in the knowledge that one of our most loved and respected members, Brian Allen, will not be among us. Brian died unexpectedly on 14th September 2018, soon after returning from our tour of Cornwall, when he had been his usual chirpy and amiable self - as evidenced by the photographs below, taken at Trevose Golf Club. Brian had been a stalwart of the Golf Society for many [...]

Mike Willis

By |2018-08-27T13:25:34+00:00August 27th, 2018|Uncategorized|

Dear Members,It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that Mike Willis died on 20 August 2018. He’d been ill for some time and put up a brave fight. Mike will be remembered by many as a regular supporter at our events, particularly our Golf Tours. Typical of Mike are the attached photos from Hardelot which also featured another great character, Hugh Heap, before he emigrated to Australia and died a few years ago.I said to Mike’s son James that I’m sure Mike would not have wanted his funeral to clash with our [...]

Another great (and warm) day at Copt Heath

By |2019-01-15T16:53:43+00:00July 8th, 2018|Uncategorized|

The Summer Meeting was supported by Artko (thanks to Michael Pestereff) and Britannia Bureau (Mark Taylor), organised by Richard Burgess and attended by 14 members and 3 guests. The course was in excellent condition - but very dry - so we were all hitting long but then unable to stop it on the green! The Club made us feel very welcome and the catering lived up to their high reputation. We were delighted to welcome John Sanderson back to the fold on an outing from his home now in Scotland. The prize-winners were: nearest the [...]
