A year ago we were preparing for our 25th season and discussing an offer to invite HRH The Princess Royal, as CILT Patron, to help us round off the year at her grandfather’s old golf club, Northamptonshire County Golf Club. Not surprisingly, her programme was too full. Nevertheless we still had a great year.

Our Members’ Meeting at Beaconsfield Golf Club was rearranged because of the weather but 20 members and guests enjoyed the outing on 2 April with Peter Taylor returning the best card to win the Chairman’s Cup – for the 4th time! For our Spring Meeting, sponsored by Narrow Aisle, 21 members and guests returned to our favourite venue, Hankley Common Golf Club, on 14 May. Another consistently steady performance from Cameron Grant meant that he came away the victor – also for the 4th time! At our Summer Meeting at Copt Heath Golf Club on 27 June, when we had 21 members and guests, the trophy also went to Cameron. Embarrassed – not a bit of it – as he went on to win the Day 2 Trophy on the Tour to Cornwall and deservedly took the John Swanson-Smith Trophy for the best results over the full season!

In a drive to get more GS members and more entries at our events, Cameron and our Captain, Gus Whyte, have worked with the HQ Corby staff to try to raise the profile of the Golf Society. Peter Taylor also succeeded in getting good report and photo coverage in the CILT monthly magazine ‘Focus’ and that has helped to spread the word to golfers and potential sponsors. One positive result is that three new members (Lee Armstrong, Keith Allison and Mark Smith) won the trophies as the Overall Tour Winner, the Autumn Meeting and Knockout Trophies respectively. One of our regular winners of the guest prizes, Ed Cox, has now also become a member so, perhaps, a few new names will feature more often on our Honours Board in the coming seasons.

While recording these trophy winners, our team matches against the RLC/TGS, the Liberal Club GC and the Oil Industry GS did not fare so well. But, like all events in 2019 we enjoyed getting together with like-minded friends, networking and sharing fun stories from our Captain, Gus Whyte, and from many others.

Full reports and pictures of our events feature on this Golf Society website, thanks to the efforts of John Winter and Peter Taylor. They and all members of the committee, together with our sponsors, share in the continuing success of our Golf Society.

Many thanks to you all.
