This additional event was added in 2017 with a match arranged by the CILT Golf Society at Dunstable Downs Golf Club against the National Liberal Golf Circle. The winning team is based on the total number of stableford points amassed from all 4 matches. Each team plays the full 18 holes of the course. The CILT narrowly won the first event but subsequently lost the rematches at Muswell Hill & Gerrard's Cross. In 2020 & 2021 the match was again tied so we can expect another very close match this year.
Founded on the professional links between the Institute and the Army’s Royal Logistics Corp, the challenge originated in 1996 with a match at Windlesham Golf Club. For the next 12 years the match was played over the Old and Coronation Courses of the RAC Club at Epsom before moving to North Hants Golf Club in 2009. For several years this match was expanded into an annual triangular match with the addition of a team from the Freight Transport Association. In 2013 we were joined by The Transport Golf Society to make it a 3 way contest and provide more competition. And last year they were victorious with a winning score of 214 points.
This is one of our oldest regular events played at our founding venue, Denham Golf Club. It is our annual match for a team of 8 played against the Oil Industry Golf Society. The Golf Society founding captain, John Smith, was a member at Denham Golf Club and of the Oil Industry Golf Society. He arranged this annual match which has been played since 1995 and was originally sponsored by BP. It is played in the morning over 18 holes between the two teams as a 4BBB match and is followed by the famous ‘Denham Carvery Lunch’ set in the Dining Hall surrounded by trophies in this traditional private members’ club. All CILT Golf Society members are eligible to bid for a place in the team.
