Founded on the professional links between the Institute and the Army’s Royal Logistics Corp, the challenge originated in 1996 with a match at Windlesham Golf Club. For the next 12 years the match was played over the Old and Coronation Courses of the RAC Club at Epsom before moving to North Hants Golf Club in 2009. For several years this match was expanded into an annual triangular match with the addition of a team from the Freight Transport Association. In 2013 we were joined by The Transport Golf Society to make it a 3 way contest and provide more competition. But it had little effect on the final result as the RLC came out winners…again!
This event is a popular annual triangular match between 3 teams of 8 from the CILT GS, the Royal Logistic Corps and Transport Golf Societies. It is played over 18 holes in the morning, stableford format, followed by a light lunch and prize giving in the clubhouse. After lunch, a friendly 9 hole Texas Scramble rounds off the day. We all then move to the RLC HQ Officers’ Mess in Deepcut for drinks in the Medal Room followed by a 3 course Gala Dinner (overnight Officers’ Mess accommodation is available). All CILT Golf Society members are eligible to bid for a place in the team.
The package includes coffee and bacon bap on arrival, 27 holes of golf, a light lunch and a 3-course dinner with wine in the Officers’ Mess afterwards. The Army Golf Club is normally in excellent condition at this time of year and provides a good test for golfers. It is always great fun and provides an excellent opportunity for networking with members of the other societies.
