A warm welcome to you all as we open the 24th season for The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) Golf Society. A copy of the latest version of our Membership List is enclosed at Annex A, both for information and as a reminder to those whose renewal is still outstanding. If you know any other present or past members of the Institute who may be interested in joining us for golf, please give them a copy of the Membership Application/Renewal Form, at Annex B.

First a few updates about the Golf Society:

  1. The declared aim of the Golf Society is “to provide golfing members and past members of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) with the opportunity to foster professional, business and sporting contacts”. In the past we’ve made several attempts to work with the Institute to attract more members and support from business and I’m delighted that our Golf Society Captain, Cameron Grant, is making this one of his priority issues. Discussions with the HQ staff at Corby are already offering helpful suggestions to raise the profile of our events and activities and I’m hopeful that we will see some results.
  2. All correspondence and notices for Society events are sent out to those on our Membership List by the Institute Centre at Corby. Our new contact administrator is Emily Cameron (Emily.cameron@ciltuk.org.uk) so, please help her by quoting your CILT(UK) membership (or past member) number when requested; provide her with details to update our Membership Records; choose to receive your Golf Society correspondence by e-mail whenever possible and enable your computer to accept such correspondence.

After 6 enjoyable years at Gerrards Cross GC it is time to move to a fresh venue and our Members’ Meeting on Tuesday 3 April 2018 will be held at Beaconsfield Golf Club. This HS Colt designed parkland course set in well-wooded land with its traditional style clubhouse should provide an attractive change for our Society (for further details see www.beaconsfieldgolfclub.co.uk).

The Meeting will be organised by Derek Messenger and John Winter. The Clubhouse opens at 0730 where coffee and a bacon roll will be available, then we will play in threes, from 0915 using the 1st tee, to compete in an 18-hole Handicap Stableford (off full handicap) for The Chairman’s Cup. After a 3-Course Lunch and Prize-giving we will hold our AGM. This is described as the Members’ Meeting but guests will be welcome. Obviously, non-members will not be able to compete for The Chairman’s Cup but there will be other prizes. We have no main sponsor for this meeting but Beaconsfield GC has extended their ‘winter special rate’ and costs will be subsidised from Golf Society funds. As a result we have been able to reduce the cost of this £100 package to £55 for entitled GS members, including coffee and bacon roll on arrival, 18 holes of golf, a 3 course Lunch with wine, and the competition prizes. Non-entitled members of the Society and guests are required to pay a partly subsidised price of £70 per person. Please return your Meeting Entry Form (Annex D) and payment by 25 March 2018 to Derek Messenger – Tel: 01494-875998; Mob: 07765-900722; e-mail: derek.d.messenger@btopenworld.com Derek will send out a note drawing attention to their Club rules, timings and directions to Beaconsfield Golf Club.

Please note that jackets and ties are required to be worn in the Club Dining Room at lunchtime and for the prize-giving and AGM.

The Golf Society Annual General Meeting will take place immediately after the prize giving at approximately 3.00pm.
