Despite the flowering trees and an iconic clubhouse, it is obvious from the wet weather gear that our first ‘major’ event of 2019 was not held in Augusta!

17 members and 3 guests attended the season opening Members Meeting at Beaconsfield Golf Club on 2nd April 2019. It was especially good to see some new faces who, we hope, will be able to join us at future events.

For the time of year, the golf course was in excellent condition – especially the true-running greens. Compensation for the chilly, damp weather came in the form of social and business networking and a superb 3-course lunch in the attractive clubhouse.

With the last event of 2018 being held last October, there was much catching up to be done on both the social and business networking fronts. Needless to say, Brexit was at the forefront of most practising logisticians’ minds.

The early Spring weather had an obvious effect on the majority of golfers, with few managing to match their known potential. Nevertheless, at the prize-giving which followed the lunch and preceded the AGM, four members and the winning guest were happy to receive their awards as follows:

Winning Guest – Philip Jackson, 36 points

Nearest the Pin (7th hole) – Steve Allen

Nearest the Pin in 3 (17th hole) and 3rd Place (on countback) – Cameron Grant, 31 points

Runner-Up – Mike Carey, 33 points

Winner – Peter Taylor, 37 points

The success of this event was due mainly to the excellent administrative and menu selection abilities of Derek Messenger, assisted by John Winter.

At the AGM, members received various reports on the 2018 season, elected a Committee and event organisers to guide the Society through 2019 and agreed a few other administrative issues.

Our next event is the always popular Spring Meeting at the wonderful Top 50 venue of Hankley Common GC on Tuesday 14th May. Entry details can be found elsewhere on this website.
