Despite the ongoing pandemic restrictions, 24 members and 4 guests enjoyed a great day at Copt Heath Golf Club near Solihull on Thursday 24th June. As usual for this (our 6th) visit to the home of Peter McEvoy, the course was in terrific condition and provided an excellent test of golfing ability.

After consuming the traditional pre-round fare of coffee/tea and bacon rolls, the assembled golfers headed out to the course – many via the practice area. As it turned out, this was probably a wise move!

Whatever the case, those who brought along (or further honed) their ‘A’ game were able to post really excellent scores and all the individual Stableford competition prize winners managed to beat their handicaps.

After the golf we enjoyed a superb 3-course meal and, while event organiser Richard Burgess announced the winners, 2021 Golf Society Captain, Bob Harper, presented the prizes.

Tim Lines (39 pts) beat ex-Copt Heath Captain, Martin Elliot (37 pts) to the Guest Prize.

Gus Whyte swept the board to claim both Nearest-the-Pin prizes – on the par 3, 13th and in 2 shots on the short par 4, 18th.

Only 2 points covered the top 4 in the member’s competition. Peter Wood (37 pts) took 4th place, Keith Allison (38 pts) was 3rd and, on count-back, Paul Ritchie pipped John Winter to win the trophy – both with 39 points.

Thanks for another enjoyable day are due to Copt Heath Golf Club as well as Richard Burgess for his wonderful organisation of the event. Special mention and thanks were also given to sponsors of the dinner, Hoppecke Industrial Batteries (thanks to Gus Whyte), and to the wine sponsors, Artko Ltd (thanks to Michael Pestereff). Our next major event is the annual tour in September, when we will be making a much-anticipated return to Yorkshire.
